Collective benefits of collet chucks

Designed to reduce machine downtime and increase productivity, the Lexair collet range includes the Full Bore collet chucks and its advanced Prodyne Servo fixed length collet chucks.

As the name suggests the Lexair Full Bore chuck range allows the full inner diameter of the lathe or turning centre’s spindle to be used because it does not require a draw tube. The range features a self-contained construction, with mechanical grip and an air release front actuated collet chuck. As such the chuck does not require an external actuator. This makes the chuck failsafe as air is only used to open it, spring force holds the workpiece while it is being machined.

Also designed to maximise productivity for bar fed applications is the Prodyne Servo collet chuck range. These chucks have been designed for use in programmable bar feeder applications where accurate positioning of the stock is required. Featuring a patented ‘pull-to-close’ design that maintains the position of the bar stock against the bar feed pusher as the chuck closes, it eliminates the need to have a turret stop for positioning.

Supporting quick changes

Based in a 10,000 ft2 facility in West Yorkshire, Leyden Transmissions was established over two decades ago to produce power couplings and braking systems for various industries, such as the heavy braking systems fitted to large cranes and hoists.

For a number of quality-critical components the company has to locate on the bore of the parts, such as high end precision parts machined for hydraulic systems and pump manufacturers. The Hainbuch MS Dock and Mando is well suited to the quick changeover ideology, changing from one size to another only takes three to four minutes. And, with its vulcanised rubber joints between the chrome/nickel steel segments it is flexible, so it can hold parts with 16 up to 100 mm diameter bores with just five mandrel cores.

 TESTit AND BE SURE

For a safe, precise and productive manufacturing process a regular check of the actual clamping force being achieved is indispensable.

To address this demand, Hainbuch offers the extremely capable and easy to use TESTit clamping force gauge. Capable of measuring clamping forces greater than 200kN the TESTit is the only device currently capable of measuring internal and external workholding systems, such as mandrels and manual/powered jaw or collet chucks.

In operation, the new TESTit gauge is completely wireless with all the clamping force values transmitted via Bluetooth to a display device, such as a smart phone, desktop or tablet PC, or PDA with the appropriate software installed.
