Leader’s quick change toolposts offer

Tamworth-based workholding specialist Leader Chuck Systems can now offer UK engineering companies’ access to the Bison range of high quality quick change toolposts.

Bison’s extensive product range is renowned for quality, durability, precision and value-for-money and it is fully supported in the UK, with Leader providing pre-sales technical support, stocks of prevalent items and spare parts. Like the vice and chuck ranges that have already become popular with precision engineering businesses in the UK, the quick change toolposts will provide the ideal solution for turning applications in many industry sectors.

In production engineering anything that can save time or removes an operation also saves money. Bison’s quick change toolposts allow quick and easy to set ups, providing a flexible approach to machining and giving significant savings in set up times. Up to three tools can be used per set up and the indexing facility allows a single tool to be used for turning, facing and chamfering. Also, fast and simple centre height adjustment eliminates the need for packing pieces. While the quick change toolpost offers benefits within a production environment its greatest gains are found with one off jobs that cannot be set up for production.

Based on probably the best known and most widely used quick change toolpost, first produced by ‘Dickson’ in the UK, the Bison range uses high quality steel, hardened and ground, finished to very close tolerances and produced in a variety of sizes to suit lathes from 89 mm (3.5-inch) to 292 mm  (11.5-inch) centre height. A variety of toolholders are available to take standard – square and vee, parting, boring and Morse taper bits and once mounted in place on the central block, can be quickly adjusted in height until the best cutting effect is found and the setting is locked.

Mark Jones concludes: “This completely obviates the need to add packing pieces and if kept together, the holder and tool are guaranteed to drop back into exactly the same position every time they are used. In order to get the best from the assembly, we recommend a selection of extra holders is acquired so that each commonly-used tool can be given its own holder and kept intact.”
